You probably know Stephen Wolfram, but if you don’t he is the creator of the famous Mathematica suit of programs and the unique search engine Wolfram Alpha. He is a genius mathematician and he is contributing to the Quantum Computation field as well.

Researchers show that relatively simple physical systems could yield powerful quantum computers

Quantum computers are devices—still largely theoretical—that could perform certain types of computations much faster than classical computers; one way they might do that is by exploiting “spin,” a property of tiny particles of matter. A “spin chain,” in turn, is a standard model that physicists use to describe systems of quantum particles, including some that could be the basis for quantum computers.

Constructor Theory : A Conversation With David Deutsch

Here is an excellent video from a man who has been a founder and guideline from the current models of Quantum Information Processing: David Deutsh.

About David:
DAVID DEUTSCH, FRS is an Israeli-born British physicist at the University of Oxford. His research in quantum physics has been influential and highly acclaimed. His papers on quantum computation laid the foundations for that field, breaking new ground in the theory of computation as well as physics, and have triggered an explosion of research efforts worldwide. He is the first person to formulate a description for a quantum Turing machine, as well as specifying an algorithm designed to run on a quantum computer. He is also a proponent of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.

About the Conversation:

There’s a notorious problem with defining information within physics, namely that on the one hand information is purely abstract, and the original theory of computation as developed by Alan Turing and others regarded computers and the information they manipulate purely abstractly as mathematical objects. Many mathematicians to this day don’t realize that information is physical and that there is no such thing as an abstract computer. Only a physical object can compute things.

Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, Probability Amplitudes and Quantum States

Probability Amplitures are at the core of Quantum Computing. This is the big difference between classical probability mathematics and quantum physics probabilities, it all lies on the Amplitude.

 

This is somehow a heavy lecture (this is a podcast) on the subject but well worth it.

Excellent podcast on Quantum Computing

This is an excelent podcast regarding Quantum Computing. (Check the rest of the website Omega Tau for more hidden jewels)
I have to say that it is not very basic so you need to know some concepts and terms to fully appreciate it.
I wish these had a video version, is one of the best 1 hour specials I have seen so far.
